When we returned to our mountain cabin near Cle Elum a week ago, we found a
dead blackcap chickadee on the kitchen window sill. When I went outside I
found a dead Coopers hawk(immature)under the same window. On returning
inside the house I noticed that a screen had blown out of a window, and the
window was open.

I surmise: that the chickadee flew through the open window, fluttered
against the kitchen window in a vain attempt to get out, and that the
Coopers hawk flew against the window in an attempt to take the chickadee.
Both birds are in my freezer awaiting transfer to an appropriate museum. I
have taken steps to avoid a repeat, as there is still another Coopers hawk
hanging around.
