Sightings for Tuesday September 21st

An immature FRANKLIN'S GULL was on the south side of the Tswwassen ferry
jettyin the late afternoon Many BONEPARTE'S GULLS and COMMON TERNS were
also seen.

Eleven AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS one adult and ten juveniles were in a grassy
field on the south side of 36th ave. about mid way between 64th and 22nd st.
south Delta.

A GREEN HERON was at Serpentine fen.

September 20th

One juvenile SHARP-TAILED and 2 juvenile STILT SANDPIPERS were still on the
north shore of Boundary Bay opposite the mansion west of the foot of 96th
st. These birds have been present since the middle of last week.

At the Tswwassen ferry terminal, berth 1 in the early evening were 1
WANDERING TATTLER, 1 SURFBIRD, 1 RUDDY TURNSTONE with 75 BLACK TURNSTONES.
Still in south Delta this evening, in a grassy field on the south side of
36th ave., approximately mid way between 64th and 22nd st., were 12 AMERICAN
GOLDEN PLOVERS and 1 juvenile PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER with PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS and KILLDEER.

Fifteen LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS were at Burnaby Lake Park on mud flats, near
the boardwalk, at the foot of Piper ave.

September 19th

Two juvenile STILT SANDPIPERS were opposite the mansion on the Boundary
foreshore, west of 96th st. Eighteen PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 1 VIRGINIA RAIL
and 1 GREEN HERON were at Serpentine Fen. Another GREEN HERON was at the
foot of 112th st.

A late WESTERN TANAGER was heard calling in Campbell Valley Regional Park.

A boat trip off Iona Island produced 60 SURFBIRDS and 40 BLACK TURNSTONE on
rocks at the end of the Iona north jetty. Otherwise the results were
noteworthy only for the scarcity of expected species such as Boneparte's
Gull and Common Tern. There were no Jeagers seen at all.


September 18th

One juvenile SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was with PECTORAL SANDPIPERS moving back
and forth between the east pond and the Iona sewage treatment plant.
Another SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER and 2 STILT SANDPIPERS were again on the
Boundary Bay foreshore opposite the mansion west of the foot of 96th st.

The first juvenile AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER of the fall migration was in south
Delta in a plowed field on the south side of 36th ave. east of the railway
tracks, east of 64th st. It was associating with KILLDEER. Nearby was a
singing WESTERN MEADOWLARK.

September 17th

A BUFF BREASTED SANDPIPER was relocated after several days absence in a
plowed field to the north east of 64th st. and 36th st in south Delta. The
bird was with KILLDEER. The flock flushed and flew towards the turf farm on
22nd st.

Three to four STILT SANDPIPERS were on the Boundary Bay foreshore opposite
the mansion west of 96th st. A HEERMANN'S GULL flew past Crescent Beach.

The long staying LONG-BILLED CERLEW is still at Blackie Spit as well as 3
PURPLE MARTINS.

A PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER was with BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER at the Niklemekel
River mouth

A late RED-EYED VIREO was in south Surrey. Small numbers of AMERICAN
KESTRELS are being seen.


September 16th

The first THAYER'S GULL of fall was seen off the Iona south jetty.

There was a late report of 2 SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPERS at the foot of 96th st.
Two STILT SANDPIPERS were on the Boundary Bay foreshore opposite the
mansion.

A late RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD was in south Surrey. An AMERICAN KESTREL was on
the Kensington overpass above the Lougheed Hwy. in central Burnaby.


September 15th

The first EARED GREBE was seen off the Iona south jetty.

Two SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPERS were seen today, one at Iona's southeast pond
with PECTORAL SANDPIPERS in the afternoon and another SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER
along with 2 STILT SANDPIPERS were opposite the mansion west of the foot of
96th st. at mid day.

The fist WHITE-THROATED SPARROW of the fall season was at the Iona banding
station. The first GOLDEN CROWNED SPARROWS of fall were at Iona and mount
Surrey.

Highlights from Point Roberts today include 1 PARASITIC JEAGER an AMERICAN
KESTREL and 4 HORNED LARKS


September 14th

A SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was on the south east pond of the Iona sewage
treatment plant with 70 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS.

One PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER was on the Boundary Bay foreshore at the foot of
104th st. this afternoon

An OSPREY was over Beaver Lake, Stanley Park.

In the Victoria area at the Rocky Point banding station a WHITE-TAILED KITE
spent some time circling overhead with other raptors.
