Hi.

The other day I was at the Good Shepherd Center and I heard what
sounded like a Steller's jay out the open window (this was during
the recent sunny period). I went to the window and couldn't see
the bird. Another person came over and said it was in a different
direction, and yet it was. But the sound came from low in a bush
and finally I realized that the sound seemed to be coming from a
Bewick's wren that was out on the end of a long bare branch/stick.
As soon as I eyeballed it, it got nervous and the sound stopped
and it twiched its way down the stick into the bushy cyprus from
which it protruded.

So now I'm wondering if this was a coincidence, or do Bewick's
wrens occassionally sound a bit like Steller's jays? I must
confess that I did not have my binocs along and so my ID of
the Bewick's wren was based on the long, up-pointing tail and
other behaviors. I could easily be wrong about that, I guess.
We were on the first floor and looking at a tree that was just
out back, so perhaps at 20 - 30 feet.
