Hey Tweets,
Spent a very chilly day birding the Okanogan National Forest starting at FR
37 in Winthrop up to Long Swamp. The weather turned very cloudy and it got
very cold. I was very unprepaird for the weather so a two day stay turned
into 1. I woke up at camp at long swamp to find 1/4 inch of snow on the
ground!
Well here's what I saw. (keep in mind this was my first visit to the area so
I didn't know much of where to find some key species)
FR 37
Clark's Nutcracker -3
Ruby-crowned Kinglet -1
Red-breasted Nuthatch -1
American Robin - 6
Dark-eyed Junco - 8
Gray Jay - 12
Yellow-rumped Warbler - 1 male audubon's
Pine Sisken - 10
Mountain Chickadee - 3

Brown Meadow's Creek
Golden-crowned Kinglet - 12
Boreal Chickadee - 6 LIFER
Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 1

Freezeout Ridge - hiked maybe 1 1/2 mile if that.
Three-toed Woodpecker - 1 male about 1/5 mile from trailhead LIFER
Grouse sp. flew at a distance from inside a spruce. Could have been my
lifer spruce grouse! Oh well, have to save some birds for later is the way I
look at it.
Clark's Nutcracker - 15
American Pipit - 5
Cooper's Hawk -1

Forest Road 39 misc. stops
Northern Flicker 1
Kestrel - 2
Red-tailed Hawk -1
Chipping Sparrow

Mammals seen were
Red Squirrels - Lots everywhere!
Yellow-pine Chipmunk
Moose 1 very large male, 20 yards away! Wow! guess you could call it a
lifer mammal
Black-tailed Deer -1 buck

Thats about it
