Hello Tweets,

Today my mother and I birded the Tokeland area, mainly looking for the
juvenal HUDSONIAN GODWIT, which we observed at the Tokeland marina amongst
a flock of 235 MARBLED GODWITS, 8 WHIMBRELS, 23 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS,
and 15 WILLETS. The bird was observed at high tide from 1pm-3:45pm, along
with other birders present today, as we all watched the bird mainly
roosting with the other large shorebirds, with occasional tail, underwing,
and rump views. The bird never did fly, only rested, and remained
undisturbed amongst the other shorebirds as they rested on the jetty. A few
other notables included: 2 HORNED GREBES, 2 WESTERN GREBES, 1 HERRING
GULL,, 2 GR.YELLOWLEGS, 1 BLACK TURNSTONE, 25 COMMON LOONS, 1 RED-THROATED
LOON, and WHITE-WINGED and SURF SCOTERS. An earlier side trip to the
Chehalis Wildlife Area, near Elma along Shouweiler Rd., in Grays Harbor
Co., where a single GREEN HERON, 22 G.W.TEAL, 1 AM.WIGEON, and 1 YELLOW and
1 female BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER were noted, as my mother caught 1 of 4
species of dragonfly present during our visit by hand(NO net) An OSPREY and
1 W.SCRUB JAY were both present at Vance Creek Co.Park also near Elma.
After birding Tokeland, we stopped by Bottle Beach, east of Westport, where
1 winter-plumaged DUNLIN was present amongst a small WESTERN-LEAST
SANDPIPER flock, along with a nearby adult PEREGRINE FALCON, 12 N.PINTAIL
on the wing, and a single FOX SPARROW that was heard calling from brambles
along the brushy trail.

Good Birding,

Ruth and Patrick Sullivan
