Sightings for Sunday September 26th

Unusually large numbers of AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS, 17-20 birds, were on the
south side of 36th ave. between 64th and 22nd st. south Delta

Eight PARASITIC JEAGERS, all light morphed adults were seen between the
Tswwassen and Coal Port Jetties.

The WILLET is still at the base of the Tswwassen jetty on the south side.
Five BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS with 2 BLACK TURNSTONES were also seen.

The LONG-BILLED CURLEW is still at Blackie spit.

At Colony Farms were some late swallows. Twenty-five VIOLET GREEN and 10
TREE SWALLOWS

Three hundred SNOW GEESE were at Reifel Refuge


September 25th

The first SNOW GEESE and EURASIAN WIGEON arrived today with some 40 SNOW
GEESE over Tswwassen.

The EURASIAN WIGEON was on the north shore of Boundary Bay opposite the
mansion west of the foot of 96th st.

A juvenile THREE-TOED WOODPECKER visited a west Vancouver yard in the 2600
block of Lawson Ave.

A late WESTERN KINGBIRD and GREEN HERON were at Colony Farms.

A SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was at Iona

Five TURKEY VULTURES circled over 206th st and 32nd ave in Aldergrove

Across the border in Blaine Washington, the juvenile AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER
was with a small party of BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS on the mud flats of Semiamoo
Bay off the Marine Park Drive shore.


September 24

The WILLET and 1 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER were at the base of the Tswwassen
ferry jetty.

The first ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK of the fall (3 birds), were seen over south
Delta.


September 23

A BARRED OWL was at the Base Powl Trailhead in Deep Cove.


September 22

September 21st

An immature FRANKLIN'S GULL was on the south side of the Tswwassen ferry
jetty in the late afternoon Many BONEPARTE'S GULLS and COMMON TERNS were
also seen.

Eleven AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS one adult and ten juveniles were in a grassy
field on the south side of 36th ave. about mid way between 64th and 22nd st.
south Delta.

A GREEN HERON was at Serpentine fen.

September 20th

One juvenile SHARP-TAILED and 2 juvenile STILT SANDPIPERS were still on the
north shore of Boundary Bay opposite the mansion west of the foot of 96th
st. These birds have been present since the middle of last week.

At the Tswwassen ferry terminal, berth 1 in the early evening were 1
WANDERING TATTLER, 1 SURFBIRD, 1 RUDDY TURNSTONE with 75 BLACK TURNSTONES.
Still in south Delta this evening, in a grassy field on the south side of
36th ave., approximately mid way between 64th and 22nd st., were 12 AMERICAN
GOLDEN PLOVERS and 1 juvenile PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER with PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS and KILLDEER.

Fifteen LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS were at Burnaby Lake Park on mud flats, near
the boardwalk, at the foot of Piper ave.

September 19th

Two juvenile STILT SANDPIPERS were opposite the mansion on the Boundary
foreshore, west of 96th st. Eighteen PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 1 VIRGINIA RAIL
and 1 GREEN HERON were at Serpentine Fen. Another GREEN HERON was at the
foot of 112th st.

A late WESTERN TANAGER was heard calling in Campbell Valley Regional Park.

A boat trip off Iona Island produced 60 SURFBIRDS and 40 BLACK TURNSTONE on
rocks at the end of the Iona north jetty. Otherwise the results were
noteworthy only for the scarcity of expected species such as Boneparte's
Gull and Common Tern. There were no Jeagers seen at all.
