I complained that Street Atlas USA Version 7 would not install -- message
that the target drive did not have enough space (it had 1.4GB)

The answer, at least for my machine, is to turn off everything that is
running except Explorer and Systray -- requiring eleven iterations of
Ctrl-Alt-Del + End Task.

The software runs fine. With the Delorme Atlas, a great birding tool.
