A lot of folks looked at the Lewiston male. It didn't show any
feather damage like you might see on a caged bird, no bands. . .
but, the story has it there was also a female present with the male
a few days earlier in Clarkston. A vagrant pair seemed even less
likely. Many of us suspect a sunbird brought them back from the
south, esp. since there was a drive years ago to introduce them to
Idaho, and if I have the story right, even promoted by the governor.
But, because you just never know for sure, the Northern Cardinal is
on Idaho's hypothetical list (in other words, maybe).
