Columbia Estuary Report - 4/2/2000

The LAPLAND LONGSPURS are still being seen at the shorebird
flats, SJCR. One is a male in nearly breeding plumage.

ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS were singing along the bike path
at Ft Stevens in good numbers. A singing Myrtle-type YELLOW-
RUMPED WARBLER and a sing TOWNSEND'S WARBLER were also seen
on Saturday by the Lower Columbia Birders.

All three Scoters are moving north in good numbers off the
mouth of the Columbia River. CASPIAN TERNS are now easily
seen.

Two NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS were at the Neawanna Wetland
on Saturday. A TURKEY VULTURE was taking advantage of the thermals
along the Astoria ridgeline over my house today.

The RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD migration should be peaking along the
north coast over the next week or so.

Mike Patterson Alas, to wear the mantle of Galileo,
Astoria, OR it is not enough to be persecuted
celata at pacifier.com by an unkind establishment,
you must also be right.
