Although published in 1996, we just discovered Louise Erdrich's first
children's book, Grandmother's Pigeon. Some of you may have read her adult
novels - Love Medicine and other widely acclaimed fiction.

For library purposes, the book is summarized thus: "Passenger pigeon
hatchlings, thought to be extinct, are discovered in Grandmother's room
after she departs on a voyage to Greenland."

With whimsy and mystery, Grandmother's Pigeon tells an anchanting story of
porpoises and Passenger pigeons - and a quirky grandmother. The beautiful
illustrations add warmth to a charming, humorous tale. Best for 4 to 8 year
olds, or any child or adult with a love of the natural world. Be ready to
answer questions!
