Dear fellow banders/ringers,

Please forward/post the following as appropriate. Thanks.

*********************************************************************
LANDBIRD MONITORING INTERN AND VOLUNTEER POSITIONS: from early May through late Oct (at least two-month commitment). The Redwood Sciences Laboratory (RSL) is seeking motivated individuals to participate in our continuing long-term landbird study. We are monitoring population and demographic trends, migration movements and studying habitat relationships in the scenic Klamath Bioregion of northwest California and southern Oregon. RSL is the hub of the Klamath Demographic Network, which has evolved into the most concentrated regional network of constant-effort banding stations in North America. Crews will operate several banding stations, which includes mist-netting, bird censuses, vegetation surveys, and invertebrate sampling. Concurrent projects include Rapid Ornithological Inventories (intensive two-day banding and censusing effort) and small owl banding and surveys. There will also be opportunities to assist with offshore Marbled Murrelet monitoring and Aquatic Bird Surveys along nearby rivers. Applicants should be in excellent physical condition, possess good communication skills, and a valid driver's license (mist-net/banding experience a plus). The ability to work both independently and closely with others is essential. RSL's banding protocols follow guidelines set by the North American Banding Council (NABC), and this is a great opportunity to master skills at this level. NABC Certified Banding Trainers will conduct workshops and field training. Housing and transportation between study sites is provided. Send cover letter and resume (with three references) by 20 April, 2000 to:
