Yesterday, on my drive to work, I observed three "CACKLING" CANADA GEESE in a very small wetland area at Canyon Park. Although there are usually a few geese near that pond, this was the first time I had seen Cacklers in there.

At lunchtime, I decided to head to Auburn to look for the HARRIS' SPARROW. Fourty-five minutes of waiting paid off, and it showed up alone at around 1:30 (the moment it started pelting rain!). The least blurry photos of it are on:

This morning, four EVENING GROSBEAKS flew low, right over the deck. Although I heard one fly overhead a few weeks ago, those were my first positive IDs of the year.
