Sunday was another beautiful day. We decided to drive Barker Canyon
road. (NW of Grand Coulee. We made one big mistake. We left at 10 am
with only one banana and water and did not get home until 1:45.
We saw 36 species and enjoyed ever minute of being out in the
sunshine.
All the ponds are full of ducks and we checked the edges for shore
birds.
There were two GREATER YELLOW LEGS and one KILLDEER by one
of the smallest ponds.
Almost at the bottom of Barker Canyon Road is Barker Canyon Lake.
Unless
you know it is there it, it could be hard to find. It has always
produced "fun"
sightings. This time, I heard the Ravens and looked around to see
them harassing
a immature GOLDEN EAGLE. The Eagle would fly and the Ravens would be
right behind it. The Eagle would land on the cliff face and the Ravens
would
land just above it waiting for it to take off again. On the lake, we
saw GREEN
WINGED TEAL, BUFFLEHEAD, and one HORNED GREBE.
Flying in front of the cliff, were VIOLET GREEN SWALLOWS and WHITE
THROATED SWIFTS.
In the back round we could here a CANYON WREN singing.
A VESPER SPARROW was on top of the sage brush singing. This was our
first one of the season.
We spent some time looking at the beautiful spring wild flowers. Some
of them
are so small, you have to look close to see them.
Enjoy the spring weather and get out there and chase those birds!

BTW.. The TURKEY VULTURES are back in Electric City. Yesterday,
two of them were flying over the lake in front of our house.
