NOTICE OF TEMPORARY POSITION OPENING

The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service will be filling a temporary Fish
and Wildlife Biologist position at Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge
Complex in Olympia, Washington. He/she will: (1) Assist in designing and
implementing field studies associated with habitat restoration and
enhancement activities at Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge; (2) Conduct
neotropical migratory landbird point count surveys, mist-netting and
banding; (3) Conduct saltmarsh and freshwater wetland vegetation surveys;
(4) Conduct and/or assists with fish and wildlife censusing and monitoring;
(5) Assist in the planning, execution, and evaluation of a wide variety of
fish, wildlife, and plant monitoring studies; (6) Prepare biological
reports, give presentations, and provide technical assistance to others.
Field work will often involve extensive work in inclement weather, during
early morning hours, wading in cold water, and work from small boats.
Field experience in performing neotropical landbird point counts,
mist-netting and banding, including identification of birds by sight and
call, properly handling of birds in mist-nets, assessing age and sex of
birds in hand, gathering other morphological characteristic data, and
banding, is required. Experience in identifying a wide variety of fish,
wildlife, and plant species, including waterfowl, shorebird, waterbird, and
raptor species and independently conducting fish, wildlife, and plant
censuses; interest in wildlife management; ability to accurately collect
and compile data; and a high degree of motivation is also desired.

Position: Fish and Wildlife Biologist
Location: Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge
Olympia, WA
Duration: Not to exceed one year
Salary: GS-07 (which equals $28,905/year, includes 9.2% locality
differential)

Hiring Position will be advertised through the Office of Personnel
Date: Management (OPM) sometime in April 2000, position will begin
in mid-May (All applications must be sent directly to OPM,
