This morning at about 11:00 I was working on a patio cover, enjoying a
wonderful Spring day in Yakima, when the young man who works for me asked:
"What kind of birds are those? Geese?" I looked up and saw six Sandhill
Cranes flying over. We were about a mile west of downtown Yakima in a
residential area so the cranes were very unexpected. I ran to my truck,
grabbed my binos, and we watched as the cranes evidently found a thermal and
started circling. They circled for about five minutes, giving us both good
views, and then flew off to the north.

This is only the second time I have seen cranes flying over Yakima.
