I was beside a marsh, with cattails and some open water, last weekend near
Sequim. I heard a sound that I have never heard before. It was a fairly
high pitched squeeky sound, very similar to what you might hear in a forest
when the wind causes two trees to rub together. It lasted about one second
and was repeated every 30 seconds or so. The middle portion of the squeek
was just slightly lower pitched than the beginning and end. It was not
loud, easily drowned out by the red-winged blackbirds that were scolding me.
I was never able to see the animal, as the vegetation was dense, and it was
coming from an area across a fenceline where no trespassing was allowed. I
don't think it was a bird, and I wondered if it was some mammal or
amphibian.

Does anybody have a clue?
