Hi all,

I was wondering if I could pick your (collective) brains momentarily.

Of late while birding, I've managed to serendipitously encounter male
ring-necked pheasants six or seven times. This, of course, made me want to
see more upland game birds.

Short of going over to the lek breeding grounds in Eastern Washington, is
there someplace really good near here where I might have luck seeing other
ground "game" bird species?

I've never been upland birding before, for species of quail and pheasant.
The California quail are abundant here; they seem to find me more often than
I am able to find them. The same thing applies to ring-necked pheasant
males.

So--those of you who are upland birding experts: Where in Western
Washington is the best place to find species of quail, pheasant, chukkar,
grouse, etc.? Is there a method of birding that's generally successful in
being able to see them?

Any advice you have on their whereabouts, birding techniques, behavioral
characteristics, etc., would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

p.s. Thanks to everyone who responded to my question regarding Evening
Grosbeak behavior! I really appreciated all your help!
