A rather obscene headline in the Vancouver, B.C. newspaper:

During 1999, the airport killed 3,234 birds, including a SHORT
EARED OWL that I had seen, {first one}, a couple of weeks before.
But, it is not the airport's fault, they say, because the first law of
nature {of airports} is "planes got to fly so birds got to die". Now the
fact that they built the airport on a major migration stopping point or
500 yards from a federal conservation area is irrelevant.

" Just pass the powder, Mama, I got me some more birds to
shoot."

Of course, I wonder if it had anything to do with the visit of
Charlton Heston, NRA type. I'm sure he would approve.
