Tweeters,

Last night at around 7p.m. my father saw what he believed to be a Whooper
Swan in Orting. I drove down there this morning and saw the bird too and it
appears to be in fact a Whooper Swan. This bird is at the Golf Course just
north of Orting. Go south on 162. (I think it's 162, it's the main drag
going south from Sumner towards Orting) Approx. one half mile north of the
Orting City limits sign, there is a road turning off to the west that goes
into the golf course and many homes too. Drive to the end where the
clubhouse is and off to the left is a little pond and a green. The bird was
associating with several Canada Geese. The origen of this bird is
uncertain. It has no bands nor clipped wings. But seemed somewhat unwary
of golfers in the vicinity. Perhaps if it has been at the course long it
may have grown as accustomed to the golfers as the Canada Geese are.
Regardless of whether this is a wild bird or not it is a beautiful specimen.
