................Sunday afternoon....Went for a walk down the railroad
tracks and to the roads.....south and west by field, forest and wetlands
near my home here in Brush Prairie(about 20 miles north of Portland.).
................3 pairs of Canada Geese with 9 goslings by a pond.
Red-wing Blackbirds everywhere. 3 Violet-green Swallows on a telephone
wire.............A Lincoln's Sparrow; 1 Savannah Sparrow, and several
Golden-crowned Sparrows in field and brush. A Mourning Dove and an
Eastern Kingbird in a tree, with House Finches, Stellar's Jays and 2
Scrub Jays flying through the air. Rufuus-sided Towhees everywhere, and
several unidentified small grayish wren-sized birds seen in the
brambles(...the "glimpse" was too fleeting!!!!).
....................2 Killdeer walking on the railroad tracks., and 2
Chestnut-backed Chickadees and a House Sparrow flying around the
cluttered area by the discount food store in Brush Prairie. 1 male
Harrier Hawk and a Red-tail soaring overhead. Shovelers, Widgeons, and
Mallards in the pond just south of mobile home park. Looked in the
thickets along railroad tracks for Ruby-crowned Kinglets where I usually
see them, but none there yesterday.
.....................And then there were the hosts of several other
"more mundane" songbirds (the "dime-a-dozen" variety!!). Yes....tis such
a lovely afternoon it was.
