Cascadia Hummingbird Report 04/17/2000

The COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD report from Portland, OR was checked out
by several local observers and was an ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD not a Costa's.

An additional report from Alaska and several interior reports from
Alaska are the news from this week.

Petersburg, AK 2000/04/05 96 56.8086N 132.9189W
Richter Pass, BC 2000/04/09 100 49.0667N 119.5833W
Vernon, BC 2000/04/13 104 50.2583N 119.2667W
Prince Rupert, BC 2000/04/12 105 54.3167N 130.3167W

CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRDS may arrive later than RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS,
but they make up for lost ground quickly. CALLIOPES were reported
from Naramata BC on 4/5 and were also seen at Vernon, BC on 4/13.

A RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD female was reported building a nest in
Grants Pass, OR.

RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS at Petersburg, AK were reported feeding on
Blueberries (Vaccinium alaskaense?). Hummingbirds at the Neawanna
Wetland continue to focus on Black Twinberry (Lonicera involucrata).
