Hello, Mike,
I'm at work so I won't be able to talk too long, but.......if you have a car, you need to drive to Ft. Hood, Texas, next to Killeen. The Nature Conservancy is working with the U.S. Army there on GCWAs and BCVI's there. I was a volunteer there and chased GCWAs all over Ft. Hood. San Antonio is about a three hour drive south of Killeen (Texas is enormous.)Take I-35. Good luck. If you think I-5 is bad, you've never been on I-35.
You've chosen a good time to go, they are in the middle of breeding and nesting right now and will be leaving in mid June. Call the Nature Conservancy (I don't have the phone number) and maybe they can get you in to see the GCWAs. There are more breeding near Austin, but I don't know where or who to contact to see them.
