Subject: non-birds...blue-tailed lizard??

Jerry:

Sounds like Western Skinks (Eumeces skiltonianus). They are the only lizard
with a blue tail in our area, and only young individuals have the intense
blue color. Tails are blue-gray, gray or brown whenthey get older. All are
very slender and have very short legs.
