hi tweets
this may be way late, but i am on digest so don't know what has transpired
on line since last night.
at any rate, i drove down to orting today to see the whooper. dennis was
right. indeed, this bird has lived on this golf course for "many years"
according to the gentleman at the desk. and yes, the bird can fly, he says
he has seen it, but it does not seem to fly very far or very well. he says
he is fed regularly by some of the staff of the golf course, and will follow
you if you feed him. this gentleman knew who had placed the bird on the
course many years back and was planning to try to find out more history
about this bird and says he will mail it on to me. i will post back to
tweeters if/when i receive anything. although not countable, this bird is
quite impressive and was well worth the drive. i found him today down by
the 18th tee. he is quite cooperative and is obviously not a wild bird.
