Thanks for the information.I am not a crow fan, though I do like Ravens, jays and other corvids.
In this case, the crow on the bottom was definitely on its feet, was definitely protesting the males actions, and it sure looked like copulation to me. I've seen crow fights, too, and you are right, unless crows have adopted the missionary position, the one of the bottom has always been on it's back. This time, no. Plus the mated females' actions perplexed me, she pecked at the crow on the bottom and then flew off.
Oh hell, I don't know. Crows are so smart they have their own world. For all I know, the three of them knew I was watching and said, "Let's really befuddle these birders....."
