World Extinction Expert, Dr. Stuart Pimm to Discuss Plan to Protect 200
Million Acres of Federal Habitat at Two Seattle Area Events


April 19th Events Scheduled at Columbia Club and at Microsoft Campus


World-renowned scientist, Dr. Stuart L. Pimm, will be speak about the
global extinction crisis, the future of ecosystem restoration, and
landmark environmental legislation to protect and restore 200 million
acres of priceless federal forest habitat. Two events are scheduled in the
Seattle area for Wednesday April 19.

Dr. Pimm, professor at Columbia University, has testified in the U.S.
Congress and been featured in National Geographic as an expert on species
preservation and conservation. He is also one of 600 renowned scientists
who are supporting the Act to Save America's Forests, which is nearing
passage in the U.S. Congress.

In the recent Time Magazine Earth Day Edition, President Bill Clinton
said, "we are linked intrinsically by the physical and biological webs
that sustain life on our planet-and increasingly by the threat of their
unraveling. Indeed, unless we reach across borders and face this threat
together, the next century may dawn on an Earth in ecological crisis, with
half of all species gone"

Dr. Pimm will address the scientific basis for the President's statement,
and the urgency of passing legislation in the U.S. Congress to reverse the
current trend toward wide-spread extinction. He will be joined by Mark
Winstein, president of Save America's Forests, a nationwide coalition
working to pass the Act to Save America's Forests, which will create the
world's largest-government sanctioned forest ecosystem protection and
restoration plan.
