Hello all: I did a late night search for BARN OWLS down in the Auburn Valley
tonight. I checked 5 moderately sized weedy fields and stayed no longer than
15 minutes at each location. The first location was the field south of
Emerald Downs which in the past had been productive due to a nearby nest but
there seems to be no activity this time. I then drove around to the north
end of Emerald Downs Drive where I immediately had one flying low over the
field before heading north. I also had a couple of coyotes watching me from
quite a close distance (i took their picture and they ran away). Anyways,
back to the Barn Owls, I ended up having two more in randomly picked fields.
So it all equals to 3 Barn Owls in just over an hours time of searching which
is about average (for me). With all the concrete that is taking over down in
the valley, it's nice to know that these owls are still surviving, although
in smaller numbers than in the past. Bryan Mathews, Federal Way,
