Columbia Estuary Report - 04/23/2000

A well described COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD was reported from Seaside
yesterday and was seen again today. It is unlikely that the
owner of the feeder is going to want his location revealed.
Photographs have apparently been taken. I will make a virtual
twitch available when I get the photos.

A GRAY JAY was at the Neawanna Wetlands on Saturday. Seven
identifiable warbler types (6 species) were at the Neawanna.
Orange-crowned Warbler
Townsend's Warbler
Black-throated Gray Warbler
Myrtle Warbler
Audubon's Warbler
Wilson's Warbler
Common Yellowthroat
There were greater than usual numbers of LINCOLN'S SPARROWS
recorded on point counts, seen at several sites in 2's and 3's.

A WESTERN FLYCATCHER was near Shively Park on sunday acting
strangely. It was hanging out in low bushes, doing a lot of
tail wagging and making single "pink" call notes that sounded
much like a Zonotrichia sparrow.

A probable STILT SANDPIPER was with GREATER YELLOWLEGS on
Wireless Rd Thursday (4-20). A guy showed up to shoot
NUTRIA and scattered everything before I could make certain.
Good flocks of WHIMBREL have been there all week as has a small
flock of WHITE-FRONTED GEESE

Mike Patterson Alas, to wear the mantle of Galileo,
Astoria, OR it is not enough to be persecuted
celata at pacifier.com by an unkind establishment,
you must also be right.
