This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for April 20,

On April 13, Laurie Ness reported 5 CASPIAN TERNS flying up the Columbia
River from Pasco towards Richland. Also on April 13, Ruth Fischer observed
a BROWN CREEPER in her south Richland yard while on the Yakima Delta, I
(Bob Woodley) found 3 BLACK-NECKED STILT, 4 AMERICAN AVOCET, and 98 DUNLIN.

The following day, Ruth Fischer, Nancy LaFramboise, and I (BW) birded
several localities with the following highlights.: At McNary Dam we saw 2
OSPREY, 1 of which was on a nest. At the Paterson Slough Unit of the
Umatilla National Wildlife Refuge, we found 300 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED
GEESE, another OSPREY and a very handsome BONAPARTE'S GULL. Along Bunn
road just northeast of Prosser we saw a male CINNAMON TEAL, 7 BLACK-NECKED
STILTS, 9 AMERICAN AVOCETS and 3 LEAST SANDPIPERS. On the south side of
Rattlesnake Mountain, we found a SAGE THRASHER and SAGE SPARROW and along
the Old Inland Empire Highway we observed a PRAIRIE FALCON.

Dennis Rockwell birded the Horn Rapids County Park on April 15 and reported
3 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, a SPOTTED TOWHEE, a BREWER'S SPARROW, 9 SAVANNAH
SPARROWS, a FOX SPARROW, 5 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS, plus SONG, & WHITE-CROWNED
SPARROWS.

On April 16, my Richland yard yielded a GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW and the
following day a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET.

Dale Litzenberger reported a HARRIS' SPARROW at his Burbank feeder on April
17. The bird had been present since April 11.

A male RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD appeared at Bill & Nancy LaFramboise's feeder on
April 19, the first reported locally.

Lastly, also on April 19, I (BW) found an OSPREY on the Yakima Delta and at
the ponds on the south end of Leslie Road, VIOLET-GREEN, NORTHERN
ROUGH-WINGED, BANK and BARN SWALLOWS. A few miles farther on, along Badger
Road, I saw a SWAINSON'S HAWK.
