Hi folks,

Today, Monday April 24, 2000, I mist-netted and released a previously-
banded AHY-U Golden-crowned Sparrow (GCSP 557.0) at my home in
west Olympia, Thurston County, Washington. 47*03' N 122*55'W

It was wearing a thinned, moderately-worn "NBS" band, which I read as:

4501-07976

The "0" in the prefix was somewhat deformed (by pliers at the initial
banding?).

This bird was released alive, with the band remaining on its left leg (I
tightened the band, as it had gapped). The bird was in full alternate
plumage, had fat bulging its furcular groove, weighed 37.5g, and was
associated with a mixed flock of golden-crowned and Puget Sound
white-crowned sparrows. Many Zonotrichia sparrows are migrating
north through the area this week.

Although I get a lot of 'repeats' by crowned sparrows - some for many
years in a row, This is my first recovery of a "foreign" Zono. It's kind of
exciting to realize that the banded bird in your hand (is messy.....) is not
one that you've seen before! Where has this bird been? where is it
going?

If anyone out in Tweeter/OBOL land knows this bird, please let me know.
I've already reported it to the US Bird Banding Laboratory folks (at
bbl at usgs.gov - or call 1-800-327-BAND), so will let people know when
I hear back whence and when the bird was banded.
