Hi All,
Still have had a dismal turnout of migrating Orange Crowned Warblers on the
hill here but this evening at dinnertime the local crows were gathering at
the powerline two blocks north of our house. I went up to see what was going
on and spied a big juvenile Peregrine eating her meal about 40 feet up one of
the towers, with about 30 or 40 crows at the top. I Tweeter-deputized 4 grade
school-age kids from the neighborhood and they were tromping around below her
looking for pieces of bird. The oldest kid found a feather and one leg and
foot for which I was grateful, and they seemed to have been recently of
pigeon. When she flew off with a fully distended crop a Crow bombed her,
which I took more as a sign of intelligence than courage.
When I got back home I wrote to the City of Renton Planning Commission at 1055
S. Grady Way, Renton 98055 to urge them to ensure that the Merlino SR-900
property is developed responsibly so as to protect the Black River Heronry.
