Stunning two days at Leadbetter Point on the Long Beach Peninsula. Friday
evening I arrived at the new observation deck on the Willapa Bay side of the
point three hours before high tide. The sand bars and mud flats were covered
with shorebirds. Over the next hour, as the tide came in, all moved close in
to the beach.Scope views were spectacular! I have never seen so many birds
in one place. Many, many thousands. I was able to positively identify nine
species. WESTERN SANDPIPERS, DUNLIN, and DOWITCHERS were present in the
largest numbers.

Went back again this morning, two hours before high tide and saw the whole
show again.

What was amazing was that I was the only person there for the entire four
hours over the two days.
