Hi folks,

I spent a fair amount of yesterday with my daughter on Opening Day of
the lowland lake trout season. We went to Munn Lake, a 34-acre pot-
hole just east of the Olympia Airport. The lake had been planted with
3,200 trout, but wasn't too crowded - 1/2 dozen boats and a few shore
anglers.

The 'butterbutts' were the most conspicuous passerine - a few in just
about every lakeside willow/alder that I could see. I would estimate that
at least 40% of the ones I got a good look at were 'Myrtle' warblers; this
seemed a bit higher than I'd have expected.

I tallied up 45 species - doubtless missed seeing/hearing others, as I
was concentrating on our rod tips and keeping the canoe straight....

Pied-billed Grebe
Great Blue Heron
Sharp-shinned Hawk
Red-tailed Hawk
Osprey - 1 made a few unsuccessful, half-hearted attempts at fish
Bald Eagle - 1 adult
Canada Goose - B.c. moffitti
Wood Duck - many courtship flights, all day
Mallard
Bufflehead
Killdeer - 1 pair on yellow water lillies
Band-tailed Pigeons
Rock Dove
Rufous Hummingbird
Pileated Woodpecker
Red-shafted Flicker
Crow
Steller's Jay
Tree Swallow
Violet-green Swallow
Barn Swallow
Bewick's Wren
Red-breasted Nuthatch
Bushtit
Black-capped Chickadee
Chestnut-backed Chickadee
Golden-crowned Kinglet

Western Tanager (heard 'piterick' call)
Starling
Robin
Orange-crowned Warbler
Townsend's Warbler
Black-throated Gray Warbler
'Myrtle' Yellow-rumped Warbler
'Audubon's' Yellow-rumped Warbler
Common Yellowthroat
Oregon Junco
Song Sparrow
Golden-crowned Sparrow
Puget Sound White-crowned Sparrow
Red-winged Blackbird
Brown-headed Cowbird
House Finch
Pine Siskin

Oh yeah - Rebecca caught her limit (and "outfished" her old man.....).
