Columbia Estuary Report - 04/30/2000

The COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD reported last week at Seaside has
not been reported since 4/23.

Arrivals this week include a WESTERN FLYCATCHER (presumably
Pacific-slope) on 4/22 and VAUX'S SWIFTS which appeared
over my house on 4/27. An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER movement
has been apparent all week with a large flock hanging out
at Clatsop Community College since Wednesday and 12 captured
at the Neawanna Banding Station on Sunday.

Steve Warner saw a WESTERN KINGBIRD at Wireless Rd on 4/28.

A VESPER SPARROW was along Jackson Rd at Brownsmead on
Monday 4/23

The spring shorebird movement should peak over the next week.
SEMIPALMATED PLOVER numbers have been steadily increasing
on the Necannicum in Seaside. About half of the SANDERLINGS
on Clatsop Beach are now in transitional or alternate plumage.
