Columbia Estuary Report - 8/1/2000

The big news is the SNOWY PLOVER found at the Necannicum
Estuary with two youngsters. The last known nesting birds
in Clatsop Co. were recorded in 1984 or 85 (I've misplaced
the report). Yearly searches were done into the early
1990's without success.

A BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD was on Nicolai Mt 7/27. A female
AMERICAN KESTREL was feeding young in a snag cavity on Greasy
Spoon mainline. WESTERN BLUEBIRDS and an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER
were also seen there.

Shorebirds seen at the SJCR today include:
Long-billed Dowitcher 5
Short-billed Dowitcher 1
Western Sandpiper 80
Least Sandpiper 10
