Butterfly Census
Coxcomb Hill Transect
Astoria, Clatsop Co OREGON
02 Aug 2000 1240h to 1330hr
temp 65F; wind NW 0-5; sky 100%sun
Method: Follows the Butterfly Monitoring Scheme described in
Pollard and Yates (1993, Monitoring Butterflies for Ecology and
Conservation. Chapman Hall, London.). A 2.2km transect was
divided into 10 sections. All butterflies, odonata and selected
day-moth species seen within 5m of the transect line are counted
and recorded. The aggregate count follows:
W. Tiger Swallowtail 1
Veined White 4
Ctenucha Walsinghami 2
Aeshna sp. 2
Blue-eyed Darner 5
Paddle-tailed Darner 5
Eight-spotted Skimmer 1
Notes: Numbers seem to be on the rise after three weeks of very
low counts. Two CABBAGE WHITES were seen off transect.
