Two years ago I saw a pair of wild turkey at San Juan County Park, the
campground between Lime Kiln and Roche Harbor. I got up about 5 AM and
heard gobbling as I was walking near the shore, slunk up the hill and
found the male displaying to the hen right in the middle of the
highway.

Last August, while kayaking north with the flood current through San
Juan Channel, I thought I saw an immature puffin along an eddyline,
though it may have been another Rhino. Auklet. Marbled Murrelets are
pretty common around the south side of Lopez, so taking a scope out to
Cattle Point should be good for alcids. Periods of strong flood
current would bring the birds closest to the shore, I would guess.

The tide data from X-tide (http://tbone.biol.sc.edu/tide/sitesel.html)
for San Juan Channel are:

There are supposed to be strong tide rips off Limestone Point too, if
you are at the other end of the island. I have not been on the water
there much, but there is a decent access to the shore near there.
Maybe someone else can comment on that area.
