Last week end I went in search of the WHITE-TAILED PTARMIGAN. I camped at
Hart's Pass Saturday night (8/5) and birded the West Fork Pasayten River
Trail which begins near Slate Peak on Saturday and Sunday. I did not find
the PTARMIGAN. But it was hard to be disappointed since I did see BOREAL
CHICKADEES and a SPRUCE GROUSE hen with 2 half grown chicks. It was my
first SPRUCE GROUCE since I left Alaska in '84, where I saw them frequently
during my 9 years there.
