Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday August 9. If you have anything to add call Harry
Nehls at 233-3976.

The elusive BLUE-WINGED WARBLER is still being seen along Indian Ford
Creek north of Sisters. The REDSTARTS are also still in the area. A
CURLEW SANDPIPER in mostly breeding plumage was found August 5 on Long
Beach, Washington. It is still being seen on the open ocean beach about 3
miles north of the Oysterville access.

Shorebird migrations are very heavy now, especially SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS
and WESTERN SANDPIPERS. BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS and MARBLED GODWITS arrived
during the week. On August 8 an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER and 8 LESSER
YELLOWLEGS were in the North Spit of Coos Bay.

Large numbers of SOOTY SHEARWATERS and BROWN PELICANS are along the coast
now. On August 7 a MOCKINGBIRD was in the residential area south of the
Marine Science Center on Yaquina Bay. A FRANKLIN'S GULL and a WILLET was
at the Science Center August 4.

The August 7 offshore boat trip out of Depoe Bay found large numbers of
FORK-TAILED STORM-PETRELS along with the more expected seabirds.

On August 7 a SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was at West Union, north of
Hillsboro. A SOLITARY SANDPIPER was at the Tangent Sewage Ponds August 5.
A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at Detroit in the Cascades east of Salem August
5.

Thats it for this week.
