This is Kas Dumroese with the Northern Idaho / Eastern Washington /
Northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Friday, August 4 (2000). This hotline,
sponsored by Palouse Audubon, is updated every Friday evening.

A possible YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was seen along Coppei Creek just north
of Dixie, Walla Walla Co, WA on Jul 29 according to Larry and Jacque
Goodhew. The bird was about 7 miles up the road from US 12 and feeding on a
previously-drilled birch. Also there were WILLIAMSON'S SAPSUCKERS and
RED-NAPED SAPSUCKERS. The road heads east off of US 12 east of Dixie near
the big grain tower with the word "Stella" written on it. WA DeLorme 41,
CD-7.

At least 2 or 3 LEAST FLYCATCHERS were still at Kootenai NWR west of Bonners
Ferry, Boundary Co. ID on Jul 28 according to Matthew Moskwik. He found the
birds on the south side of the main road going into the refuge, just west of
the Deep Creek Bridge on the road to refuge HQ. ID DeLorme 62, A-3.

A THREE-TOED WOODPECKER was a cooperative bird at Seven Devils Campground
near Riggins, Idaho Co. ID last weekend according to Bryan Jamison. Also in
the neighborhood were a couple of Mountain Goats. ID DeLorme 50, B-3.

And finally, the shorebird report from Mann Lake, about 3 miles east of the
Lewiston Orchards, Nez Perce Co, ID.. Bryan Jamison reports 11 species this
past week including SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, AMERICAN AVOCET, both species of
yellowlegs, SOLITARY SANDPIPER, WESTERN SANDPIPER, SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER,
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER, and WILSON'S PHALAROPE. From the north end of
Lewiston, follow US 12 West into town, cross the Clearwater River and
immediately take the first left toward East Lewiston. Turn left again onto
East Main Street and follow it about 0.5 mile to the blinking yellow lights.
Turn right onto Lapwai (aka Lindsay Creek) Road. When the road forks stay
right on Lindsay Creek. When Lindsay Creeks ends at Grelle Avenue, turn left
onto Grelle, and just after Grelle makes a sharp right turn, turn left onto
Powers Avenue. Follow Powers about 1 mile, straight past the grain towers,
to the reservoir. ID DeLorme 54, A-1 and A Birder's Guide to Idaho p 88 (see
the map on p 84).

If you have any questions, give me a call. 208.883.0943.

Good birding.
