Sorry for this late posting. I've been very busy lately with work.
Last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday I birded the area around Lost and
Bonaparte Lakes. I was specifically looking for a Great Gray Owl.
Unfortunately, I was unable to find one, but I did hear several Barred Owls
in the area, including one at the Lost Lake Campground. My dad and I tried
to call the Barred Owls in for a look, but they didn't seem to respond to
our calls. Perhaps it is too late in the season. In addition to the owls,
I also did a little shore birding in a mudflat a couple of miles south of
Bonaparte Lake on Bonaparte Lake road. But the highlight of the trip was
not a bird at all. While I was looking for Barred Owls, I found a Northern
Flying Squirrel around eleven in the evening on Saturday night in the Lost
Lake Campground. This was a real treat, because I even got to see him glide
from one tree to another.
