Today my mother and I searched mainly for the adult female CURLEW SANDPIPER
near Oysterville, and S of Leadbetter Pt. S.P., in Pacific Co. We arrived at
7:30am, and walked the sandy beach from the north beach access, W of
Oysterville. The weather was fair, and calm, with improving conditions
throughout the day. We walked N to the south beach trail access of
Leadbetter Pt. S.P, then back with NO bird, until 11:15 am, when the bird
was flushed by a beachcomber w/dog in the same vicinity where my mother had
it on the 8th and 9th, as I carefully scanned the high tide line, where the
bird most often foraged during previous sightings by my mother. The bird was
quite alert, as the beachcomber got closer, then flew E towards and finally
over the dunes allowing excellent views of the white rump, and white
underwings and underparts, with , with a lone RUDDY TURNSTONE, but did not
return! Other birders were present before and after the sighting, as we
checked and double checked the main vicinity of the observation, with a few
birders that checked further north of the location, near the tip of
Leadbetter Pt., but still NO bird, as of 3pm. Other notable birds present
during our stay included:

18 RUDDY TURNSTONES
800+ SANDERLINGS
57 WESTERN SANDPIPERS
14 LEAST SANDPIPERS
64 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS
18 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS

Before heading towards home, we checked a beach access, SW of Oysterville,
and located a lone partially oiled NORTHERN FULMAR on the beach, found
earlier by Bruce Labar and Marcus Roening. On our way home we checked Brady
Loop Rd., E of Montesano in Grays Harbor Co., with the following highlights:

1 WILSON'S PHALAROPE
28 WESTERN SANDPIPERS
15 LEAST SANDPIPERS
2 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS(our first of the year)
1 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER
all three teal species
1 MERLIN(good record for summer)
1 AM.KESTREL(E of Montesano along Hwy.12)

Our final stop was made at Mud Bay in Thurston Co. at high tide with the
notable highlights including:

97 BONEAPARTE'S GULLS
18 WESTERN SANDPIPERS
72 LEAST SANDPIPERS
