Hey tweets, The Fill has been inordinantly quiet of late. For the last two
evenings, there hasn't been much out of the way. I did see a Pacific Slope
Flycatcher foraging in the trees yesterday morning. Flycatchers don't seem
to hang around the Fill very much, so I rarely see them. It was a treat to
see this one, who gave me many good views.

This evening John and I had set up our chairs on the west side of the main
pond. We've been doing that a lot lately, watching the birds as the sun
slowly sinks. As quiet as it is, on many evenings it has been the high
point of our somewhat hectic and often frustrating days.

Anyway, we were dozing in the sun when an osprey flew overhead. It didn't
stop for a second, just kept floating along to the north. Green Lake maybe?
Elliott Bay? A green heron also flew in. I've seen this heron a few times
before - he's distinctive because he keeps his crest feathers raised almost
all the time. It makes him look like a punk rocker with an attitude.

A few leasts and westerns were poking around on the north end of the pond.
All the tree and violet green swallows have left. The cliffs are mostly
gone too. Another season is turning. No buffleheads yet, nor any wigeons
however. I await their arrival eagerly. As much as I miss the swallows when
they go, their absence is compensated for by terrific waterfowl and
raptors. Nature in balance, I guess. The loosestrife looks sick sick sick.
Hurrah. - Connie
