A winter basic plumaged RED PHALAROPE was in a flock of 28
RED-NECKED and 4 WILSON'S PHALAROPES in ponds near the
Iowa Dodd Beef plant in western Walla Walla Co WA on Aug 6
according to Mike and MerryLynn Denny. Also there were 3
BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS and 3 BONAPARTE'S GULLS. To get
there, take US 12 north from the jct of US 12 and US 730 about 4.5
miles to Dodd Road. Follow Dodd Road east and about 0.5 mile
past the last feed lot, follow the road to the right down the old rail
bed to the ponds. At the Walla Walla River delta near the jct of US
12 and US 730 were 4 SEMPALMATED PLOVERS and a
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, as well as PEREGRINE FALCON
on Aug 5 according to the Denny's. Park on the pullout opposite
Madame Dorianne Park and follow the trails down to the delta. WA
DeLorme 40, CD-1.

A BROAD-TAILED HUMMINGBIRD has been visiting the feeder of
Dave Holick on Moscow Mt, northeast of Moscow, Latah Co ID this
past week. If you want to make a run for it, call Dave at 208-882-
5556.

At Swanson Lakes, about 9 miles due south of Creston, Lincoln Co
WA, there's plenty of good mud. Cindy McCormack reports a nice
mix of shorebirds, including BLACK-NECKED STILT, GREATER
YELLOWLEGS, DUNLIN, LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER,
WILSON'S PHALAROPE, and the following sandpipers:
SOLITARY, SEMIPALMATED, WESTERN, LEAST, PECTORAL.
WA DeLorme 86, B-4.

Birds at Mann Lake, about 3 miles east of the Lewiston Orchards,
Nez Perce Co, ID this past week included SEMIPALMATED
PLOVER, GREATER YELLOWLEGS, LESSER YELLOWLEGS,
SOLITARY, WESTERN, SEMIPALMATED, BAIRD'S, and LEAST
SANDPIPERS, LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER, WILSON'S and RED-
NECKED PHALAROPES. Also BLACK TERNS and COMMON
SNIPE. From the north end of Lewiston, follow US 12 West into
town, cross the Clearwater River and immediately take the first left
toward East Lewiston. Turn left again onto East Main Street and
follow it about 0.5 mile to the blinking yellow lights. Turn right onto
Lapwai (aka Lindsay Creek) Road. When the road forks stay right
on Lindsay Creek. When Lindsay Creeks ends at Grelle Avenue,
turn left onto Grelle, and just after Grelle makes a sharp right turn,
turn left onto Powers Avenue. Follow Powers about 1 mile, straight
past the grain towers, to the reservoir. ID DeLorme 54, A-1 and A
