Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday August 17. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

On August 13 a bright male HOODED WARBLER was at the Bond Creek
Campground on Hart Mountain.

The BLUE-WINGED WARBLER and the REDSTARTS continue to be seen at the
Squawback Road crossing of Indian Ford Creek north of Sisters.

Flocks of migrant landbirds are now being reported, but shorebirds are
far more conspicuous. On August 12 over 4000 WESTERN SANDPIPERS and 1000
LEAST SANDPIPERS were at Bandon along with many other shorebirds.
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS were reported from many areas.

On August 11 a FRANKLIN'S GULL and an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER were on the
North Spit of Coos Bay. A DUSKY FLYCATCHER was at the D River in Lincoln
City August 15. A PARASITIC JAEGER was at Boiler Bay August 11. On August
15 a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was in Astoria and a DUSKY FLYCATCHER was in
Seaside.

On August 7 an immature BROWN PELICAN was at Grand Ronde in Polk County
for a very rare inland record. On August 15 two out of habitat GRAY JAYS
were at Pedee in SW Polk County.

On August 13 an adult BREWER'S SPARROW, a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW, a
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, a SOLITARY SANDPIPER, and 25 GREAT EGRETS were at
Fern Ridge Reservoir.

On August 9 huge numbers of AVOCETS were at Summer Lake and huge numbers
of RED-NECKED and WILSON'S PHALAROPES were at Lake Abert. A SANDERLING
was at Lake Abert the next day.

It appears that the BLACK ROSY-FINCHES on Steens Mountain are now
flocking. Two groups were seen at the rim August 13.

Thats it for this week.
