My wife and I birded on Mt. St. Helens on 8/17/00 and found very few
birds and lots of people in most areas. At the Hummocks Trail at
Coldwater Lake, Cowlitz County, in the flocks of Tree, Cliff, and Barn
Swalllows, we did spot 3 Bank Swallows.
On our way back home a drive through of the River "S" Unit of the
Ridgefield N.W.R., Clark County, provided us with an American Bittern, 16
Great Egrets, and a Black-crowned Night-heron. 3 Ruddy Ducks were still
on Rest Lake where they may have bred this year.
