I am posting this as a forward since TTSS is not formally on the mail list
for tweeters. The following is the latest update on the hunting of
trumpeter swans in the Rocky Mountain Population (part of the RMP is the
American breeding population portion soon to be proposed as Threatened
status).

The FWS's entire final (7/12/00) Environmental Assessment on future RMP
management direction and general swan hunting in the Pacific Flyway, the
FONSI,
press release, and evaluation of range expansion progress and swan hunting
in 1995-99 are on the web at http://migratorybirds.fws.gov.
This is the web site for the Office of Migratory Bird Management and has a
>lot of interesting information. The "Regulations" button on this webpage
also provides a link to the Federal Register where the final proposed
decision on general swan hunting will be published on August 22. The public
comment period will be open until September 8.
The 7/28 FWS press release that summarizes key points of the Final EA's
Preferred Alternative is also available at http://news.fws.gov/newsreleases/
