This evening Sandy and I went for a walk around the neighborhood and
just before we got back to the house we saw at least 30 COMMON
NIGHTHAWKS "hawking insects" from an elevation of 30' to a couple
hundred feet. What a sight.

At 11.15 pm I went outside on the porch and almost stepped on what I
believe to be a imm. GOLDFINCH. It can hardly fly. The color pattern
is right for a mature bird, (no downy feathers) but it is smaller and
it's tailfeathers were only 1/4" long. Is it possible that it is a
Dwarf? Or is it just size challenged? :-)

Are the tailfeathers the last ones to "sprout"?

I am keeping it in the shop until morning at which time I will release
it.
