Hi Tweets - it was a gorgeous morning, with just a trace of fog clearing right
about 7:00, and getting rather hot by the end. The birds were very quiet, and
there weren't very many birds, but we still managed 43 species with a bit of
work. There were some good sightings:

Pied-billed Grebe Momma still has 5 bigger babies
Canada Goose 1 Aleutian subspecies with mob
Wood Duck 4 - hatch year?
Osprey 1 flew down slough
Northern Harrier 1 flying high, imm?
Virginia Rail Heard several, saw 1
Red-eyed Vireo Great view in East Meadow
Brown Creeper At least 2 near start of boardwalk
Wilson's Warbler 1 male with creepers
Purple Finch 2 near vireo

Had a flock of around 30 BUSHTITS. Lots of STELLER'S JAYS eating hazelnuts
like last week, very few RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS, several flycatchers that
appeared to be WILLOW, and maybe one PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER. Only a couple
of CLIFF SWALLOWS and now Violet-greens.

I saw the Virginia Rail on the slough-side of the boardwalk just downstream
from the lake platform. From the sounds, there were at least 2 and maybe 3 at
that location.
