This is Dave Holick with the Northern Idaho / Eastern
Washington / Northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Friday, August
18 (2000). This hotline, sponsored by Palouse Audubon, is
updated every Friday evening.

A GRAY FLYCATCHER was seen by Dennis Rockwell at Horn
Rapids County Park NW of Richland, WA on the morning of
Thursday August 17. The bird was seen in the Black Locust trees
about 100 yards south of the caretaker's residence. WA DeLorme
page 39, D-5.

Birds at Mann Lake, about 3 miles east of the Lewiston Orchards,
Nez Perce Co, ID this past week included SEMIPALMATED
PLOVER, GREATER YELLOWLEGS, LESSER YELLOWLEGS,
WESTERN, SEMIPALMATED, and BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS,
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER, and RED-NECKED PHALAROPE.
Bryan Jamison and sons reported an AMER. WHITE PELICAN
there on Aug. 14, which would be an unusual sighting here. Numbers
of birds seem to have dropped dramatically as available mud flats are
diminishing, possibly due to filling at the present time.

Directions: From the north end of Lewiston, follow US 12 West into
town, cross the Clearwater River and immediately take the first left
toward East Lewiston. Turn left again onto East Main Street and
follow it about 0.5 mile to the blinking yellow lights. Turn right onto
Lapwai (aka Lindsay Creek) Road. When the road forks stay right
on Lindsay Creek. When Lindsay Creek ends at Grelle Avenue,
turn left onto Grelle, and just after Grelle makes a sharp right turn,
turn left onto Powers Avenue. Follow Powers about 1 mile, straight
past the grain towers, to the reservoir. ID DeLorme 54, A-1 and A
Birder's Guide to Idaho p 88 (see the map on p 84).

A SEMIPALMATED PLOVER was reported as being at the ponds
along Foothill Rd north of Moscow by Charles Swift. Next week
Charles Swift will be your guest commentator.

Good birding.
